First week update

Dec. 21st, 2014 | 10:02 pm
posted by: gingerrose in mission101

Normally I'll be providing monthly updates on my progress, but I wanted to drop in and talk about my first week. I realized soon after I posted my list that this week was a real hurdle to jump through, for the following reasons:

1. I had just gotten back from a 2-week vacation overseas (and thus had a 2-week backlog of things to catch up on, plus any possible jet lag--which I thankfully didn't really have).
2. It's smack in the middle of the holiday season.
3. I got a head cold immediately after getting back to the States, so I was operating at less than 100% capacity.

On the plus side, I figured that if I could stay faithful to my goals for the whole week, it would be a great confidence booster; after all, these are the times when people have the most trouble honoring their goals, so if I can do it now, I can do it anytime!

And I did!

Here's my progress for this week:

1. Eat breakfast every morning. (7/1001)

2. 2. Eat every 2 hours throughout the day per my nutritionist's recommendation. (7/1001) This one took some thought on my part, because I had to make sure that food was available to me when the 2 hours were up. So today I walked 2 miles to church, went to the service, and stayed late to decorate the sanctuary for Christmas. I had no idea how long that would take, so I ate just before I left and grabbed some quick refreshments after the service. I don't really eat a lot of processed food, so it's been interesting trying to find quick snacks!

3. Have "quiet time" every night. (7/1001) This was super tough on some nights. Friday night I went to a party and didn't get home until almost 1AM. All I wanted to do was go straight to bed, but I still made time for a quick stretch or meditation anyway.

4. Get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. (7/1001)

5. Post on Pinterest gratitude board daily. (7/1001)

6. Floss every day. (7/1001)

7. Complete Yoga With Adrienne's 30 Days of Yoga I consider this one in progress even though it doesn't start until the new year, because I officially signed up this week! I'm committed now!

27. Become proficient enough on the psaltery to play in public. I practiced the psaltery for about half an hour on Monday. Dang that thing needs to be tuned, but I decided not to worry about that and just play for awhile. I think I did rather well.

41. Complete all 12 creativity exercises from The Happiness Project. (1/12) I completed an exercise in which you have to have a 15-minute conversation without using the words "I", "me", "my", or "mine". I did it in the car with my husband, though I didn't tell him what I was doing because I didn't want him to accidentally attempt to make it easier for me. It was actually not that hard, except when he asked me what I was thinking of baking for my work's holiday party. Discussing that without mentioning myself took some improvisation.

59. Clean the house at least once a week. (1/142) This one was, by far, the hardest for me this week. Mostly because it was a busy week, so I didn't get to do any cleaning until this evening--the last possible day. At that point I was scraping the bottom of the barrel motivation-wise, so I got home at about 5:00 and fell into an internet black hole until 8:30. But all that counts is that I got up at 8:30 and did all the cleaning!

63. Spend time with a friend at least once a week. (1/142) This one was easy. So many holiday parties this time of year.

67. Have at least 40 Facebook friends that you see at least every 90 days. (1/40) My success here may be a little bit cheating--I count my sister as a friend, and I spent the weekend with my family, so I saw her on Saturday and again on Sunday. I think it still counts.

71. Complete all items on work daily to-do list at least 3 times per week. (3/426) Almost didn't make it due to not being motivated on Friday afternoon. But I did it!

Goals in progress: 13
Goals completed: 0
Goals failed: 0

The next two weeks are going to be equally hard. There'll be kind of a trade-off; I'll be feeling better from my cold, but the next two weeks are both holiday weeks and I'll be away from home for about half of each week. Mostly what this means is that I'll have to start cleaning the house early, and I'll have to not slack on my work stuff.

Unless I decide to post earlier, the next time you hear from me will be next month!

My first Mission 101 List!

Dec. 14th, 2014 | 10:11 pm
posted by: gingerrose in mission101

Hello everyone! I'm Florence, a 27-year-old disability support professional from Maryland, USA. I've toyed with the idea of doing a 101 list for awhile, and my sister attempted the challenge a couple of times, but now I've decided to finally go ahead and do it! As you'll see, I have some things I want to learn more about, some habits I want to develop, and many (MANY) creative projects and things I want to do and see. I'm planning to start working on my goals tomorrow, which means my 1001 days will end on September 11, 2017. I'm hoping for the best!

From now until 2017!Collapse )

Wish me luck! I'm going to bed now ready to start on my goals tomorrow. :-)

September-November update

Dec. 4th, 2014 | 12:47 pm
mood: shockedshocked
music: Madonna--Mother And Father
posted by: bulmafox in mission101

Since I waited long enough.

5. Finish all Castlevania games from Castlevania 3 to Symphony of the
Night (0/9)
--OMG I made it to the eight level!

11. Finish all Mario games from Super Mario Land 2 to Super Mario 64
(4/11; spoiled 3)
--I started playing Super Mario RPG, finally. I just got
past Moleville.

(n)22. Finish The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind--Okay, I'm gonna fail this one.
I recently bought The Elder Scrolls Anthology for the PC, which means I'm
gonna start with Arena. Except I'm dreading Arena because last time I couldn't
control anything worth poo and then I died.

23. Cut my movie to-watch list in half (34/132)--I watched Guess
Who's Coming To Dinner?, Guess Who?, and And The Band Played On.

(y)29. Finish Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (155/155; 1/1 movie)--I
finished it! Also, even though it's not on my list, I move straight into

(n)30. Finish Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)
--Okay, I'm gonna fail this too. I decided to start at the
very beginning, with the Mirage Comics. I bought TMNT: Ultimate Collection,
which has all the non-guest-artist Volume 1 issues, and I just started on
that. Then I'll be reading the synopses for the rest of the comics, then
watching the 1987 series, then The Next Mutation. So I won't be watching the
2003 series anytime soon.

(n)31. Finish Sonic X (0/78)--Failing
this, too. I decided to watch the earlier Sonic cartoons first.

39. Finish Transformers (48/98, 0/1 movie)--I watched a little more
of season 2.

42. Organize my e-mail inbox--My main inbox is a lot smaller

43. Organize my hard drive--Well. I bought a new laptop, plus
shortly before I bought it, Crypotwall (ransomware) encrypted a bunch of my files. I have
three backups, but none of them are complete. So my next task is to try to
piece everything back together.

(n)58. Finish my general DBZ site and (n)59. Finish
my Sailor Moon site
--These goals failed, too. I'm pretty sure my
website is dead (again), and this time I don't feel like moving it anywhere
else. I'll think of....something for my oeuvre.

(n)60. Write 6,000 words for
NaNoWriMo and (n)61. Write 7,000 words in NaNoWriMo
--Yep, more failures. I just...ran out of plots I hadn't
already written at least part of (save two short stories), and this was the
last NaNo before my list ends

69. Learn enough Spanish to become conversational--I thought I was
getting really rusty, then I unexpectedly was able to read a Spanish label on
a bottle of cleaner at work...with no English translation!

72. Become proficient at touch typing--Even though I have a new
computer now, I haven't really done a thing about this.

81. Learn sports--I passed my baseball recap test at a local Little
League game. I'm ready to try my (American) football test now, if I can just stop being
lazy and watch a football game.

87. Finish all my music discovery paths--I found out recently I like new-style
(post-Gundam Seed) Nami Tamaki.

88. Give myself a small reward for each goal completed (14/101)--I
bought a bunch of DVDs at FYE as a reward for finished Mighty Morphin Power

Wow...there are a lot of failed goals on here.

A New Start

Nov. 26th, 2014 | 08:24 pm

posted by: deesdetfc in mission101

Hey everyone, I haven't posted here in awhile but I'm starting my next 101 goals in a 1001 days list. Also interestingly enough the dayzeroproject website has added some more lists you can do, and so I added 52 in 52  weeks and before I'm 30 lists as well, so basically I'll have fun interweaving and getting my one, three, and nearly four year lists working together.

And so while I didn't do so well on my previous 101 list, I've decided that the past is gone and I need to go ahead and look forward. I realized a lot of things I decided to do took more preparation and focus than I gave, and I really let certain things or people affect how things in my life were going to go. Now I know that it doesn't have to be that way and no matter what I can stay focused on my goals and not let things get far behind.

Boom! So basically here is my list that I've done from last time:

So that's 66 goals I have right now, and I really want to focus on taking care of myself and my future, focus on balance, and focus on having fun. I want to take what I already have for my goals, find a way to make them work, and then boom stay on track and get it done.

Thanks guys

The first month of my newest list_number Six

While I certainly won't bore you with all the details, those can be found here :) there are a couple of things, two projects completed, that I do want to post about.

The FIRST project, tasks #55 through 58, was a reorganizing of my drawings which, honestly, were scattered everywhere and so, I've pulled all 65 or so of them together in one portfolio and have cleaned, signed, and fixed them with Permant Fix so they will now stay safe and should there be an earthquake, I'll be able to grab them quickly :) Always thinking ahead.
The SECOND project, tasks #33 through 35, was going back to the beginning of my LiveJournal postings and running forward through the archives cleaning it up, eliminating around 15% of my postings, and, most importantly, copying into a word.doc any and all relevant-to-Lauren posts to add to her ongoing and forever journal.
I'd started her journal before she was even born, in September of 1993, and continued until early 2003 when, for reasons I know longer know, I stopped and have only very recently begun writing to her again. That left a lot of empty time, early 2003 until late 2014, until it dawned on me that I have in fact captured much of our lives in my LiveJournal which I started in 2006 but didn't really do anything with until 2007.
I can't tell you how wonderful it was to be able to go back and relive the past eight years, even the painful parts. Now all I need do is get all the pages printed, Office Max here I come!! and figure out a way to not stop writing to her. Also, the way I think about my LiveJournal now has changed. It's no longer just mine, it's also me communicating to Lauren, reminding her of who we now are. I just hope YouTube never goes away!!

Also, a TID-BIT. Task #90 is Project Happy Moments which I have snagged from fansee and a post she made here.
I changed it up a little so that at the end of each week, I write a small note, dropping it into a glass jar about a good thing that happend that week. The good thing could be finishing a project, having a really good conversation with Lauren, going out to dinner with David, or having coffe with my ladies. Just whatever. A gentle reminder!!
My jar empty, with accurtemonts, and my jar with one month's of part-way-full.

I've been neglecting my 101 page for a very long time now. But I do have a new 101 in 1001 list I've been working on for some time; I just haven't actually put it online anywhere. It won't happen today, but I am hereby making a commitment to myself to enter my list into the site, and to start updating it.

More to come.

Weekly Update

In progress:

I totally blew by a chance to reevaluate my goals, so I'm doing that now. (1 - 2) I added the 30-day Plank Challenge a while ago, but to be honest I think it is just too difficult for someone at my fitness level (and potentially also very poorly designed?). In its stead, I've added "Complete 49 Sun Salutations." The Sun Salutation includes planking so it's more or less the same goal, just better. (6 - 15)

I've also been chugging along on my public blog, so I've blown through those goals as well. (10 - 8) (10 - 9)

A couple goals I haven't really been thinking about. Like I was eating a pound of grapes easily every day during the summer, in addition to homemade banana–strawberry smoothies—it's just so hot and they're so tasty—so I've got my 4 weeks of fresh produce covered. (6 - 11)

I'm going ahead and acounting my Cambodia/Philippines/Thailand goal as failed (9 - 1). I should have seized that opportunity while I was still in Korea; there is no way I can afford a visit before spring of next year.

The same with gving Alex feedback on "Familiar." (7 - 4) I'm not going to finish this by the time the list is over, but I could have, so it's a failure.
