Still, work has been done & progress made.

Completed TOTAL_91
Not Completed TOTAL_10_These were mainly tasks for making everyday life just a little bit better like MEDITATE 4 times per week. Started out well then let meditation just drift away like a dandoline seed on the wind. Also, I once again failed to research my father's ancestry so that ask will go onto my next list.

Progress + New Year!

Jan. 3rd, 2017 | 08:32 pm
posted by: laeryn in mission101

A new year is my excuse to look back to how things are and make a few changes. I have a little over a year before my time arrives to finish this list so I am going to make it a priority this year and try to accomplish as much as possible. I'm trying to find the balance between realistic and hopeful and have set my goal in completing at least 75 items from the list before February 2018 comes around. We'll see how it goes!

Original list: here!

Start date: June 1st, 2015
End date: February 26th, 2018

Progress: 12/101

1. Read 101 books. (31/101)
Here's one challenge that I just won't finish in time, but oh well. Since my last update I have read five more books: The Neverending Story (Michael Ende); Just Kids (Patti Smith); Lady Susan, The Watsons and Sanditon (Jane Austen); The Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde), and Born A Crime (Trevor Noah).

7. Read books by authors from 11 different countries. (3/11)
Trevor Noah is South African and his book is amazing because if you, like me, know little about the country and its history, it will only show you that you know even less than you thought, while giving you a small insight that makes you want to know more.

8. Read 11 non-fiction books. (8/11)
By my last update I had read three books for this category I didn't count: salt. and Nejma by Nayyirah Waheed, and bone by Yrsa Daley-Ward. Patti Smith's Just Kids and Trevor Noah's Born a Crime join the list.

11. Watch 101 movies. (61/101)
Funnily enough I've barely made progress with the easiest one: only Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them and Barry.

34. Cut off alcohol for 3 months straight, no exceptions.
About 3 days for now, but I hope to get to the end of March without a sip!

2. Complete Goodreads 2016 reading challenge. (15/24)
I couldn't, so it's going to go out to make space for the 2017 challenge!

6. Read at least 30 books from my Goodreads' to-read list. (1/30)
This one goes out altogether. That list is ever-growing and I don't even know how to properly track this, nor do I care that much about it, so bye bye!

17. Mad Men.
30. Get my nails done professionally.
41. Study or do 45m of homework every day for a month. (0/30)
70. Write at least 2 pieces in Spanish (too much writing in English lately). (0/2)

These either aren't relevant anymore (like homework) or I don't care about them anymore (like my nails).

31. Follow Blogilates' calendar/s for a month straight.
32. Follow Blogilates' calendar/s for 3 months in a row.

Currently and probably for the long run, I don't really have the space at home to follow anything like this, so I'm putting it aside for now.

38. Plan and do a short morning work-out every day for a month.
I work shifts so this is going out of the window as well for now.

*54. Complete the 2016 getyourwordsout challenge. Pledge: 250,000 words. (45k/250k)
I failed, but I joined the 2017 challenge with a 150k pledge that may still be too ambitious since I have yet to learn how to balance work and life, but I don't get scared of challenges!

82. Have 200€ in savings.
Changing it to 500 now that I have a job! No more because I want to get a tattoo and possibly travel some, so I have to keep it realistic, I guess!

50. Get a job.
62. Move abroad.
Towards the end of November I packed my things, moved here, and got a job in 4 days. I'm still in probation but I do believe it's going well, I enjoy it, I have my own house and am finally economically independent. This were two of the biggest and (I thought) most difficult challenges I included in this list, and that I accomplished them makes me tremendously proud of myself. YAY FOR BEING BRAVE.

And there we go. I've also cleaned up the list and changed some things. Let's see how it goes from now on. I hope your lists are going well! Happy new year, everyone. May 2017 bring you happiness, wonderful surprises and a great time ♥

Mission 101 starting 1/1/2017!

I'm posting this list a bit late, because I actually didn't really plan to do a Mission 101 list to start the new year. I've never successfully managed to keep one up before, after all! But I found that as I started figuring out how I wanted to approach 2017, I was structuring it around some of the stuff that has appeared on my past Mission 101 lists. So I thought I'd post it for accountability purposes, and see what happens.

This list is very similar to the last time I attempted this project in 2015; I only made a few changes to the goals. So for longtime community members it might seem a bit familiar. :) Yes, I have 5 undesignated goals that are earmarked for future dates and 10 additional ones that are as of yet unspecified. There are some gaps yet; I'm keeping my options open. We're still seeing where this list goes!

Start date: Sunday, January 1, 2017
End date:Sunday, September 29, 2019

December 2016

In honor of one year of mission101, I spent some time over the last three days evaluating my list. I also did some math and realized, oops, I have space for 23 more goals. How did that happen? I added a few, but even so. I don't want to just put something on the list to complete the list.

Completed goals: 8 fully completed; 3 yearly goals completed
Failed goals: 2 (both are yearly; one I dropped, and one I have a chance to redeem myself in 2017!)

December 2016: baby it"s freakishly warm outsideCollapse )

Something else I did this time was to color code some goals: purple goals are priorities for 2017, and navy blue goals are "uncertain." These are things I'd like to do or try, but that might go beyond "a stretch" to "impossible" because of financial or health reasons.

Priority Goals
big personal trip, Summer 2017
complete the Dutch course on Duolingo
read one poem a week
read one short story a week
read one academic article a week
edit a completed novel first draft
crochet a temperature blanket
start a retirement savings account
apply for Republic of Ireland Foreign Births Register

Uncertain Goals
see the Northern Lights
join a bon odori or yosakoi dance class
adopt a cat

It’s been a long time since I updated,

Since my last update, I have…

Revised my list for the end of 2016

Continued on with Rylie’s baby book and letters

Goal 8 is to do one fun/educational new activity every month after Rylie turns 6 months. We made a handprint ornament.

I made an A in my class (Goal to make an A in 2/3 remaining classes)

I visited Helen, Ga

Bought 3 pairs of dress pants

Completed my red journal

Sent out Christmas cards

Made creamy ranch chicken (2 more supper recipes to try)

Finished this year’s book challenge

Bought Travis a nice gift

Logged 1/100 review hours

Completed 19/101, Started but not complete 14/101, Not started 68

I hope to start updating monthly again and maybe have a better update than this with pictures and such.

In 2017, the big goals I hope to complete are every goal in the “school” section as I hope to graduate with my masters in August. I also want to lose the weight and finish Rylie’s baby book. For my book challenge next year, I just want to read 36 books (or graphic novels or novellas). I am going to have busy year, and don’t want to be too ambition with that.

Due to my waning enthusiasm and a reminder that I'm not a Finisher of Things, I'm retiring my current 101 list. I won't be starting another one. It was a nice series of tries while it lasted.

Long post is longCollapse )

Goals completed: 6
Goals failed: 37
Goals not started: 47
Goals empty: 11

Sad, really.

eight! updates! oh my!

There's probably not much to update, but since the next couple of months are going to be crazy, this seemed like a good moment for this. Right before the storm, get some work done! So here we go...

Original list: here!

Start date: June 1st, 2015
End date: February 26th, 2018

Progress: 10/101

1. Read 101 books. (26/101)
2. Complete Goodreads 2016 reading challenge. (15/24)

I read: My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem, Humo y espejos (Smoke and Mirrors) by Neil Gaiman, Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen, bone by Yrsa Daley-Ward, salt. by Nayyirah Waheed, Nejma by Nayyirah Waheed, Japanese Fairy Tales by Yei Theodora Ozaki, The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling.

8. Read 11 non-fiction books. (3/11)
My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem.

11. Watch 101 movies. (59/101)
I've watched 15 more books since, the last one of them being Sing Street.

14. Indiana Jones. (1/4)
I totally forgot in my last updated that I had indeed watched Raiders of the Lost Ark in Japan! Such fun!

34. Cut off alcohol for 3 months straight, no exceptions. (2/3)
I haven't had alcohol since I came back from Japan, that's about two months with one to go. I'm not sure if I'll manage this one this time because Christmas and I intended on allowing myself some alcohol in Christmas, but we'll see.

Although changes still need to be made, the only one I'm doing now is changing 62. A month without WhatsApp (which seems to be on the way to become impossible due to circumstances) and substituting it with 62. Move abroad. It sounds very general, but it's something I've dreamt since I was a kid and that may be in my near future. Major changes will come in the next update.

FINAL THOUGHTS are that I have no clue whether I'll ever be able to finish this list, but here we are, I guess. Do not give up until it's too late, right? Right.

Good luck with your lists!

84. Try 10 new recipes (2/10)
I made some 5-Min Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
